Finding the right balance – attention seeking It is important for us to address attention seeking as a key topic for finding the right balance in life. Why? Because we may have children right now who are seeking attention from us all the time and it is vital we put a stop to this so that they can find security in God. Or we as adults may be products of attention seeking and it is time we let go of our past and let God bring healing of our past hurts. To me the root cause of attention seeking is because of rejection and maybe feeling neglected as a child. As a testimony I want to let you know that I am a product of this imbalance. It isn’t my parents fault, it isn’t anyone’s fault and I will not blame anyone for this. Why is it important for us to overcome this imbalance? Attention seekers are often never taken seriously. They are often seen as immature. But more importantly, they often don’t trust themselves. Root cause: They want approval for everything they do. God has called us to be disciplined, to be decisive and clear with our purpose in life. The very fact that we cannot trust our own decisions is not healthy. Seeking approval for every decision I make is one of my biggest struggles. Attention seekers may struggle with their identity, lack of purpose because they don’t feel good enough. We must put a stop to this. Today let us claim our identity in Christ. Let us establish our purpose in life by God who created us and not MAN! We can never overcome this imbalance if we don’t give it to God. Finally, let us embrace making mistakes and failing, we don’t need any stamp of approval from people, because GOD HAS ALREADY STAMPED HIS APPROVAL IN YOU THE DAY YOU WERE FORMED AND CREATED IN THE WOMB. Numbers 6:24-26 The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. © 2008 Shaun Lee. www.everynation.org.sg archive: www.shauntzen.blogspot.com |
