Words of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 31 Mar 2009

Firm and solid foundations – the Lord is my anchor

The very foundation of our lives must be built on the Lord. Today, is God our anchor? The main reason why God wants us to spend so much time on building firm and solid foundations is because of this simple word: meaning. If God is not our anchor we have no meaning in life. Only God can give meaning to our existence. There is a clear distinction between those that are anchored in our Lord and those that aren’t. I pray that we would examine what our anchors are in life.

Money issues should never be our “main” anchor. The key word is: main. Money is important, but not as important as our relationship with God. Ecclesiastes 5:10 Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. This too is meaningless.

Whether or not we are poor or rich, we must meditate on Ecclesiastes 5:10. Do we love money? Do we love wealth? Do we lack money that it fuels our lives? Do we lack wealth to the point that it drives us? Does money define our existence?

Do not be dependent on people as our anchor. I pray that we would not hold on to relationships to define our existence and to gain meaning in life. Some people want to be ASSOCIATED WITH THE RICH, FAMOUS, POWERFUL, and INFLUENTIAL. Why? So that they too can be looked upon with meaning. We are defined by God and not people. People can become a crutch if we are not careful, because we become too dependent on people and not God.

God is our anchor we cannot take the bits and pieces we like. If God is our anchor today, I pray that we would be committed fully 100%. Countless times in 1 Kings to 2 Kings (1 Kings 15:14, 2 Kings 12:3, 2 Kings 14:4, 2 Kings 15:4) we find Kings who did not commit fully to God. We must give our all to God, everything WHOLEHEATEDLY. When I read the words, “The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there” it makes me realise that I too need to check my heart. I too need to repent of my sins and lack of commitment to God because if I don’t I will fall short in everything.

Are our anchors getting worn out, do they need to be strengthened? Today, I pray that we would be encouraged to clean, lubricate, and strengthen our anchors in life. We want to because all we want to grab onto and hold onto is God. It is time we get serious with our quiet time with God. It is time we read the Word of God with passion. It is time we pray with God. It is time we strengthen our anchors if not, there will be nothing to grab on to because it is rusty, weak, and not unstable.
