Giving: Self-control
Do you have a strong will? Today's word of encouragement is about disciplining your will by blessing others around you with the gift of Self-control.
We all need to give others more self-control. Maybe it's our mouths, we often offend people because we are insensitive? Proverbs 17:28 says, Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.
Maybe it's our jokes, the Bible says in Ephesians 5:4, Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
Maybe it is our stubbornness, our unwillingness to change. God is saying to us, when are you going to grow up? We think we are mature, we think we have got it all, but maybe God is using others around you to tell you, "hey it's time to change." I Corinthians 13:11 says, When I was a child, I talked like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
Finally, let us be quick to forgive and apologize. What is the point of keeping garbage in our hearts? Let's put these small issues behind us so that we can focus on the more important, life changing, and impactful things that God has for us all. Ecclesiastes 7:9 Do not be quickly provoked in your spirit, for anger resides in the lap of fools.
Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. It is time we change. Let us ask for forgiveness right now, and humble ourselves so that we can be effective for God.
