Word of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 13 July 2008

Ten Commandments: #1 You shall have no other gods before Me (Deuteronomy 5:7). As I begin on this ten day journey of the ten commandments. I am praying and believing that the Word of God would draw us closer to Him versus making us feel as though God’s laws are constricting our lifestyle. There is a difference between freedom of the world and freedom defined by God. I hope that we would remember this statement throughout this series. Many people define Christianity as, “It is just a bunch of laws, rules, and I don’t want that because it cramps my lifestyle.” If that sounds like you today, then this series is meant for you. The first commandment states, you shall have no other gods before me. This command is simple enough to explain. Anything that we place above God is what we worship. Maybe it is relationships, boyfriend/girlfriend, sex, money, your career, etc. You shall have no other gods before Me. So we go to church every Sunday, we think we are Christians, yet we spend more time thinking about our life, our needs, lack of needs, then thinking about God. I hope today’s word of encouragement lays the right foundation. Anything that we think most of, take more priority of, basically we are worshiping that.
