Compulsive spending, the value of money, and what happens when everything is taken away from us? Compulsive spending is something that I hope we pay close attention to. Learning how to spend money within our capacity is wisdom at work. In life, if we are always going to compare ourselves with other people who have more than us we will never be content with life and what God has given us. Today’s word of encouragement is especially targeted to men. God has called us to lead our families, our homes, and we exemplify the Church in our homes. Ephesians 5:25 “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” But men, I ask you this, how are we to lead our homes when we are not building our homes for the future? As single men or as married men it does not matter, what we spend on matters to God and our futures. Spending beyond our means, beyond our capacity on material gain, on clothes, gadgets, electronic equipment, digital cameras, playstation, sports cars, does not build our homes for the future. Making wise investments, thinking about the future, preparing for buying a home, preparing for a child, saving money to treat your wife to a holiday, all these things help build our future. But most of all, like the parable of the talents, God is watching us, seeing what we are going to do with what He has entrusted to us. (Read Matt 28:14-28) Today, God has entrusted us with what we can bear and within our means, which servant are you? The one that doubled what was given to him? Or are you the one that just buried what was given to him? © Mar 2008 Shaun Lee archive: www.shauntzen.blogspot.com |
