Word of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 24 Feb 2008

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Imagine an old house with walls that are dirty, cracked, and everything smells musty. There are several things that we can do to this house, we could renovate everything, but renovations would cost a lot and take time. There are other methods which would be cheaper and would take lest time, like repainting or wallpaper.

Today’s word of encouragement is about removing the fake facade. If we study the analogy of this old house, we could mask the flaws, the dirt, and the smell by repainting or putting up wallpaper over the cracks. But in the end, the cracks are only being covered up, and the foundations of this old house have not been fixed, strengthened, and renewed.

How is your house today—the house inside you? Are we covering our lives, our sins, our mistakes the same way as someone putting wallpaper over the cracked wall? You see the word of God says in 1 Corinthians 6:19 that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and in verse 20 it says, “YOU WERE BOUGHT AT A PRICE.”

If we were bought at a price, why in the world would we settle for wallpaper to cover our cracks, rather than rebuilding our structures? Simply, because we enjoy our sins, we don’t want to deal with the pain of rebuilding, and we want the easy way out.

We were bought at a price by our Lord Jesus Christ-are we going to settle for anything less than the best that God has for us?
