Word of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 8 Feb 2008 |

Proverbs 13:24 He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly. Today’s word of encouragement is focused on two aspects. One as a parent, and the other our own individual lives. Proverbs 13:24 says, “He who spares his rod hates his son…” I hope that we never spare the rod of discipline for our children. A lack of discipline, teaching, nurturing and we can see the children of the next generation corrupted and influenced by bad examples in life. I wonder how much we value the title of being called a father or mother. The bible says children are a blessing from God. The sad part though, many parents look at their children as a burden, a curse, a pain, wish they weren’t born, and some feel that it is the role of education, teachers to PARENT my child. Discipline, we need this on a daily basis. No matter how old we are, we still need discipline. Today, we may be mature in age but examine your life, do you lack discipline? How can we be examples to the next generation whether we are a parent or not, if we ourselves lack discipline? The end part of Proverbs 13:24 states, “But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.” Promptly means quickly, rapidly, swiftly, without delay, speedily, etc. Promptly does not mean, I’ll wait to fix it tomorrow. Let us make a conscious effort to discipline our children and our own lives right now with no delay, how? Through the word of God that leads, guides, directs, comforts, and commands us on a daily basis. © Feb 2008 Shaun Lee |
