Word of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 11 Nov 2007

Word of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 11 Nov 2007

We are so dependent on physical things that when something breaks down, like our computers, phones, iPod, PSP, Wii, etc. our lives seem to malfunction as well. Today’s word of encouragement is who are we dependent on, ourselves, material things, or Our Lord Jesus Christ.

In July, I had the opportunity to visit the Philippines for the first time in almost 14 years, and the most frustrating thing was my cell phone broke down right when the plane took off from Singapore. The moment my cell phone broke down, a part of me felt missing. I was worried that I could not sms anymore, I could not communicate anymore, and I was so frustrated.

Though I was out of a phone for four days, it was a blessing. I realize how dependent I was on my phone, that it made me wonder what else I am dependent on. My computer, imagine my hard drive failing on me right now at work or at home, I don’t think I could sleep at peace for several nights.

Who or what are we dependent on? Some of us are so dependent on our boyfriends/girlfriends that when they aren’t around we feel insecure, we feel lost, alone, and they might be cheating on me. Some of us are dependent on security blankets, that if we don’t sleep with it, or if we don’t bring it with us wherever we travel, we can’t sleep.

Have we gotten so caught up with our physical needs and desires that we have forgotten to be dependent on our Lord, our Father, our Creator, the one and only true King, our Savior, the servant king, Jesus Christ; furthermore, the Holy Spirit himself, our Father lives in each of us. Have we forgotten?

1 Corinthians 6:19 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? YOU ARE NOT YOUR OWN; 20you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.
