Words of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 5 Apr 2009

Picking your battles – against yourself

Sometimes our greatest enemy in life isn’t satan himself, but ourselves. Today, I pray that we would be aware of the battles that we tend to constantly fight, against ourselves.

Luke 9:24-25 For whoever wants to save his life will lost it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self?

The fear of everything else except God. I hope that we boldly remember this statement. Sometimes when we let life drown us, there comes a point when we forget that fearing God is the most important thing. God must come first. If we fear God, it is much easier to face any battle that is thrown at us, even ourselves.

Deuteronomy 6:13 Fear the Lord your God, serve Him only and take your oaths in His name.

Should’ve, could’ve, would’ve. The reason why the battle against ourselves can be bigger than satan, is because we think too much. “I should have done that.” “I could have been that.” “Only if I would have done that.” A life of regrets gets us no where. A life of always looking back into the past gets us no where. Today, I pray that we would always be thankful to God for the challenges and battles in life, because battles in life helps us look towards the future and helps us focus on the most important things in life and not the distractions.

The battle has already been won, so start living it. Jesus paid it all. His death two thousand years ago brought about the greatest victory on earth. Despite all that He has done for us, we still live as though, the enemy is winning. I pray that we would get real with God. Let us stop fighting ourselves, beating ourselves down, and being weak. God made you special. There is only one of you in this world. He has a specific plan for each one of us, if we would only be willing to listen, to fear Him, and obey Him.
