Words of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 2 Apr 2009

Firm and solid foundations – Worry and concern

Worry and concerns are part of life. However, taken to the extreme it is very unhealthy. I believe that when we worry, we lack trust in our Lord. Today, I pray that we would remove all worry and concerns. Lay them at the foot of the cross and build a strong and solid foundation based on prayer.

Let us pray for those that do not know the Lord. Let us pray for those that do not have the Lord as their refuge, strength, and source of life. However, if we do have the Lord in our lives, then why are we worrying? What is so great that our Lord cannot handle? Who by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Matthew 6:25-27 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important that the clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?

Why do we worry? We must ask ourselves this question. We must lay every single worry at the foot of the cross. To be honest with you, I love this current economic crisis, because it is an opportunity to see what we are made of. It is an opportunity to see how honest, real, and deep our relationship with God is.

God’s encouragement. I believe that God wants to encourage us right now. Some of us may be concerned that we will lose our jobs. Some worried about providing for our families. Some worried that they have passed their expiry date and will not get married. Why do we worry?

Matthew 6:33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
