Word of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 20 Dec 2007

2 Chronicles 19:7 Now let the fear of the LORD be upon you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.

Are you the type of person that is easily judgmental, critical, and assuming? Often people put down people who are like these negative characteristics; however, with wisdom and with the fear of the Lord, these negative characteristics can turn into a unique gift. The gift of Discernment.

It isn’t over night that we can suddenly change, and have such great discernment. It takes work, effort, and a desire to grow this gift. Today, I pray that we would desire to strengthen, or yearn for this gift of discernment.

Taken to the extreme, the gift of discernment can become our stumbling block from loving people. In 2 Chronicles 19:7 the first and foremost importance is: FEAR THE LORD. Why is this crucial? Because people who walk with a strong gift of discernment are often judgmental towards others, and if we don’t fear God, it means that we are judging others through our eyes and not from God speaking to us.

God says, Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery. God is fair, He isn’t bias, He doesn’t show favoritism, and He can’t be bribed. I hope we too will incorporate these characteristics when we judge a person the next time.
