Today’s word of encouragement is about finding our security in God. The only way that we are able to find our security in God is if, we are centered in God’s will, if our relationship with God is strong, and if God comes first in our lives over everything. Why is security in God vital? The reason why this is so important, because if we are not secure in God we will find security in other things and other ways. People often find security in family, friends, the best schools they went to, the famous companies throughout the world to work for, wealth, fame, fortune, having a girlfriend/boyfriend, the list keeps going on and on. IF we were to read Genesis from the beginning to the end, it is amazing how often we can find men who were insecure. First was Cain and Able. We all know this story because Cain killed Able. Cain was jealous that God blessed Able more. However, if we were to read it closely, God did say to Cain in Genesis 4:6, Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? 7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it." Let us learn today from Cain, it is not about how gifted, talented, better looking, smarter, what school we came from, that makes us any better than the beggar, prostitute, sinner on the street. God says to us all, “IF you do what is right, will you not be accepted?” Our acceptance is not from man, it is from God. Without knowing and understanding that God loves us all and accepts us all unconditionally, we will always be insecure. Further into Genesis we find the lives of Isaac’s sons, Esau and Jacob. Twins, yet God chose Jacob to be used mightier than Esau. Esau wanted to kill Jacob, because Esau gave up his birthright to Jacob for food, and also stole Esau’s blessings before Isaac died. Yet, What was amazing to see was after Jacob had served Laban for 20 years he finally went to meet Esau. When Jacob met his brother he called himself servant. Jacob also made his wives, servants, and children call Esau, Lord, master. Genesis 33:8-9, “8 Esau asked, "What do you mean by all these droves I met?" "To find favor in your eyes, my lord," he said. 9 But Esau said, "I already have plenty, my brother. Keep what you have for yourself." It is evident that Esau realized his own calling and purpose in life. He learnt to let go of his jealousy of Jacob. God blessed Esau. Here we have two examples: Cain and Able, and Jacob and Esau. In both cases one brother was jealous over the other brother. Let us learn today from Cain and Esau. One chose the path to sin and destruction. The other chose to walk with God. Security in God can only come from God, our relationship with Him, and putting Him first. Yes, others around us may be better than us, richer, etc. But today let us find security in God, that He has a plan, a purpose for you and for me, let us stand on His promises for our lives, and not let the devil fool us. © Oct 2007 Shaun Lee |
