Words of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 23 Jan 2010

Desire to be shepherd-who do you seek approval from

As we learn how to be shepherd, it is important for us to learn how to let go of seeking approval from men. Are we men pleasers or servants of Christ? It is time to let go of our past, unresolved hurt, pain, and unforgiveness which causes us to seek approval from men. Letting go can only happen if we know God loves us unfailingly.

Psalm 130:7 O Israel, put your hope in the Lord, for with the Lord is unfailing love and with Him is full redemption.

Today, God wants us to focus on one key aspect of letting go. Let go of seeking approval from man. As children of God the only person we should every seek approval from is our Lord and no one else. However, it is only natural to seek approval and acceptance from our mentors and shepherds because being accepted is better than being rejected.

As we follow our mentors, the danger of any discipleship relationship is when we keep looking for acceptance, approval and recognition from our leaders. God is encouraging us to let go, learn to make our own decisions, learn from mistakes and stop seeking approval from man.

Galatians 1:10 Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? Or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.
