Word of Encouragement for Every New Day ~ 3 Apr 2008

Today’s word of encouragement is a continuation of my series on, the importance of building strong roots. “Strong Roots” takes time, effort, and constantly growing our relationship with God. The only way that we can grow strong roots is by patiently watering it everyday. Too much water and we kill it. Too little, it dies. What do we water ourselves with? We are constantly bombarded by information on a daily basis. The internet, television, newspapers, advertising billboards, and many more that we’ve probably missed. What we expose our eyes to determines the state and health of our roots. Anything that corrupts the mind is unhealthy. How do we know what is bad? You don’t need anyone to tell you what is bad and what is good, God has wired us all such that we can instantly distinguish what is rotten and what is pure. Trees need sunlight in order to grow healthily. Over exposure to sunlight and it will kill the tree. Similarly, if we are over exposing our eyes, minds, and hearts to garbage on the internet, media, television, etc; we will end up killing our souls and what is good in the inside. The purity of our minds, hearts, and souls is water that strengthens our roots.
