The test of faith – gratitude

Today’s word of encouragement is about gratitude. It is easy to praise and thank God during the good times. But is it easy to thank God during the trials, adversity, and the painful times? All these are test of faith.

The song “It is well with my soul” was written by Haratio Spafford. Spafford was faced with several traumatic events before this song was actually penned. First was the lost of their son in 1871. Then the great Chicago Fire came which financially ruined him. Planning to visit Europe he decided to send his four daughters and his wife first. However, while crossing the Atlantic their ship collided with another ship. His four daughters died and only his wife survived.

Instead of being bitter and angry at God, Spafford recognized that God is in control. To give thanks to God while faced with trails is tough. But to do so means that we know who is master and who is in control.

Today, I hope you can find the time to listen to this song again. I hope the lyrics would encourage us to give thanks when we are faced with our own trails and sufferings.

Prayers for the youth and marriages – 4 Oct 2008

Father, we pray that your children today would be molded and formed by you right now in the name of Jesus.

Father, your commandments are clear, to love and honor your parents. Right now we pray that children all across the world would respect their parents. God’s promises never come back void. He promises long life to those that honor their parents.

Father, you define these youths not man. We pray that you would remove the clouds that cover their eyes. Open their eyes that they may begin to see their calling, and their impact that they are going to make for You O Lord. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

2 Samuel 22:3 My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior-from violent men you save me.

God we pray for solid and firm marriages today. We pray for couples that love you and honor you right now. God protect these marriages. May they continue to uphold you, place you above all, and fear you most of all Lord. Protect these marriages that they will not get complacent and neglect you. In Jesus name.

We pray for marriages that are lost, broken, and at the brink of separation. In Jesus name we pray, that you would intervene. Bring healing, bring forgiveness, bring love, and bring restoration right now. Divorce destroys lives. In the name of Jesus we pray for healing to take place right now.

Psalm 100:3 Know that the Lord is God. It is He who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.

The test of faith - I want to be used by you

Let us remember and be encouraged today that the test of faith, and facing adversity in life are ways in which we know that God has a great plan for us all.

The very fact that the devil is there wanting to pull us further away, means he knows our impact for the kingdom of God. The more useless human beings there are on this earth the better, in the eyes of the enemy.

Today’s word of encouragement is a reminder not to get discouraged, stop whining, and face adversity with boldness because, God is going to use you.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you, “declares the Lord,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Prayers for the youth and marriages – 3 Oct 2008

Thank you God for every child created. Thank you Lord for every child being born right now. God these children are precious to you. Each life has been made uniquely by you. Help us Lord, to value their lives just as you value ours.

Some children born today may not have a father. Some may be born out of wedlock. In the name of Jesus you define them, not man. In the name of Jesus let no man stop this child from fully understanding the father’s love that can only come from You Lord.

Jesus we pray that each child would remember your words. Your promises are never forsaken and forgotten. We thank you and praise your name always. Amen.

God in your mercy and in your love we pray that you would right now stand in the gap of all marriages. We pray that you would be the center and focal point of all marriages today.

Help us not forget you. Help us not take you for granted O Lord. God, in the name of Jesus we pray that marriages in this world would be based on your firm foundation and not in anything that is easily broken and weak.

God today, help young couples right now interested in getting married. Before their tie the knot, help them, open their eyes, open their ears that they may hear you clearly. Reveal to them your plans. If you have not purposed them to be together make it clear to them. Make the barriers even harder and harder.

Today O Lord, we pray for healthy marriages. We pray for young couples to walk in righteousness. In the name of Jesus we are going to see transformed marriages today and in the future because You O Lord are our guide and light. In Jesus name we pray amen.

The test of faith

As we begin on a new series of the test of faith, I hope it will encourage us all, young and old, to live lives wanting to be tested by God.

In my opinion you cannot teach a person how to be an expert as God tests our faith, and overcoming adversity. The interesting thing is that some people view life like this, “It is ok that I am suffering today, because later on I will not suffer anymore.” This mentality of, suffer today for a better tomorrow, is a false hope. Most often it is our in-built security system which is suppose to prevent us from feeling depressed.

We need to face adversity the way Jesus did. Jesus was in constant communication with God. Why is this important? So that we don’t drift away. When Jesus faced accusations and persecution He did not fight back. Why? To know if we are being used by God. To know if we are being effective for the Kingdom of God, it is through the test of faith.

Right now what type of adversity are you facing? Let us examine our lives. Are we really being tested by our faith? Or are biggest life concerns and worries is if we can buy the latest fad? What is God saying to us right now about our faith level?

James 2:17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

Father, as we focus our prayers today on the youth. We pray that you would raise up leaders who would lead by example for the next generation.

As the world continues to liberalize and distort the role of man and woman, God today, we pray for righteous leaders to lead. Your Word is clear, yet men distort your Word.

Today, help us Lord. Help us to open the yes of your sons and daughters. Help us to instill your righteousness, your love, and your word into the lives of the youth. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

God almighty, we pray the quarrelling and quick tempered couples right now. In the name of Jesus we pray that you would bind and shut tightly the tongues of the unwise.

Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Father, we pray for couples to be quick to forgive. We pray for greater wisdom and understanding. Most often fights occur because of miscommunication or a lack of communication. Today, we pray that you would remove the work of the enemy who wants to spit and tear marriages apart.

Today we pray for strength, perseverance, and hope. Do not give up. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Being foolish

Ephesians 5:15-17 Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.

Most often people think that the older we get the less mistakes I will make. Foolishness is not age sensitive. Anyone and everyone can make foolish mistakes, even the most wise.

Today’s word of encouragement is about minimizing foolishness. As a child we foolishly disobey our parents. “Don’t touch the stove it is hot.” Yet for some reason we still touch it, get a burn, and from that point on we remember what hot feels like.

As we get older, life changing decisions we make will either bless or alter our future. For example, as a teenager some of my friends got into relationships, and before I knew it someone in my school got pregnant.

Investing in the stock market, being in debt and unable to pay off all your loans, as wise as we may be, we can still make foolish decisions in life.

God’s word stays firm and constant. Be very careful with how we live, be wise, make the most of every opportunity, but don’t be foolish, understand what the Lord’s will is.
